An antique marble relief of Satyress

Period / Age: ca. 18th - 19th Century AD

Provenance: The Bertuzzi Family, Italy (Export license from Italy)

Length: 40cm (15.8")
Width: 14cm (5.5")
Hight: 47cm (18.5")

A fireplace fragment of Satyress carved into white marble.
The design recalls a mature female satyr with her offspring leaning against her knee while she leans on a marble block and being observed by others.
Female satyr is entirely an invention of post-Roman European artists, as the Greek satyrs were exclusively male.
